Tips about Coloring & Tarot Art in general

1) finish all lineart first & color later, it’ll save you time & recoloring troubles & give your deck more uniformed look using same I advise strongly limited color pallet for each suit? maybe something like Dragon age Tarot? or just combine your lineart with old map texture to give it that medieval look? maybe something like I did here will work best https://sites.google.com/view/myluckycard/ancient-lenormand or Take a look at these wonderful Spirit Keeper Tarot by Benebell Wen color samples for idea what coloring style would suit your deck best?;)

 

2) Card design & colors determine card meaning & light Clear and Simple is seen more positive/optimistic and darker more negative!;)

3) avoid main basic colors/hue Red, especially light Blue & Green as printed colors will look much darker/aka flat dark green!x,x unless you are born awesome talent to fill wonderful coloring book pages!:) lolz srsly, I’m thinking creating my next tarot as lineart & publish it as *limited mono edition & bnw coloring book & ask people (who know how to do it!!:) to color it so I can pick best & publish colored edition!XD lolz imo some coloring book pages are best color style EVER!XD

4) Older decks usually (successfully!) ignore some basic art rules like; 3x3 grid/aka do not center your art! & thou shalt not mix more than 1primary color in your art!:) as traditional (Marseilles) Tarot color palette is RedGreenBlueYellow+ black lineart!:) but if you look popular modern decks like; RWS (&Thoth) it’s usually 1 dominant color & few accompanying I.e HP, Emperor, Tower etc all showing how PCS & lady FH were great artists of their time with good theory basis!^^ lol so moral of the story When creating your Tarot art; check how it’s done traditionally, check card meaning & how other great artist did it before you & try not to be much worse?!:) lolz

5) don't be afraid to be you be fresh and bold don’t be afraid to break some rules!;D

There are many *rules & guidelines how to/ or not make your Lenormand or any other deck and fad art trends, but all that don’t guarantee you popularity! And there are many who successfully broken those rules and get favored by public opinion! So be bold and ready to make something you’ll like! And who knows? You may end up creating something new and fresh everyone will talk about!

6) Experiment with different layer modes & effects (imo gradient works best!^^) but Whatever you do remember to 

7) Have Lots of fun! You Are Creating Something You Like & Learning Lot in process!^^ if more people recognize it's just extra kick either way you get exp & Art of a lifetime to enjoy!;D

Note; regardless of media you are working eventually you’ll need to provide digital files for print by taking hi resolution scan or photos so here are some

Digital files tips;

+ Back up of your work on extra usb or cloud & take pic of your lineart before coloring!:) 

+Keep your digital art in progress in your original working format with separate layers (In gimp that is xcf & psd in photoshop or some high res like bmg or tiff and save/export as what you plan to print in png etc (make sure layers are flattened/merged! and there is no transparent areas!) Only when you consider it completed & ready to print! As any changes you do to jpeg and save it again will result in quality loss!

+Text and borders should always be in separate layers! that leaves more options for later! as modern trend is borderless that makes art look bigger & better & saves you of uneven border issue in case of printer drift!;) 

+Remember to remove top/guideline template layer before saving & uploading your img for print & check for errors including text, card size and alignment of layers!:)

Extra cards in Chakra Lenormand Oracle deck

In addition to 36 cards that are traditionally considered Lenormand I added 16 more cards with corresponding playing card insertions to make it a full playing card deck and 2extra cards without numbers and playing card insertions, here is their meaning in short with numbers and corresponding playing cards insertions;

Ideas behind extra cards

I had idea for this from the start, that is for extra lady n gent card but decided to toss those out and instead paint people cards with hats so you can guess hair color!:)) god idea ha?:))  and as  I realized there was much more extra cards I can make! And even full deck of playing cards, and before I know it I think I get overboard with extra cards and have it more then playing deck?x,x Oh well, guess that why we call it jokers! Lolz  

Assigning numbers and playing cards insertions to each extra card to make it full playing card deck required some serious thinking!  somewhere from the start I had idea/wish this to correspond to tarot?

And best part is that ideas I had for all extra cards fit surprisingly perfect with corresponding tarot cards!

what a coincidence? so here is interpretation;

Hearts/cups this is probably my fav as all cards fits perfectly! And here is why;

2of hearts /s card in whole tarot deck this card is best to be s?:)) and what a coincidence to be minor I can use for lenny! Lolz it makes me wonder did mis L had this card but publisher from that time decided not to included cuz that time lady should not be using something like this!^^ ;)) lolz

3of hearts /party!:)) again what better card to say it’s a party time!:)) lolz

Design is based on b day card I painted g a while ago, but in process I get idea to make it all with balloons in the air and you can't see the floor on purpose!:)) and there are confety all over the place giving it chaotic messy look! And that was my point! To make you feel dizzy! And think ah! What a crazy party my head hurt who will be cleaning all this mess! And that is the meaning of the party card! 2 banana he he this is another card that fit perfectly cuz person in rw is looking like balancing two coins and if not carefull it could slip!:)) n card here have a similar mening wach your steps or you could slip!;))

3 parrot not sure for this one as person in rw is showing of in front of others!:))

4 window person in rw is looking like holding to tight to something so meaning here is be more open! Open yourself to the world your breath easier n feel better!:))

5 roses miracle! I like this card n message! Not sure for mening as rw is kind of poor scene but it mentions love so it can be seen like something if there is love we can make it trough hardships/we can make our miracle!^^ or something like that?:)

3 sheep, in rw this look like same person from previous card but back so it can mean something is over or no? not sure why but I decided to take it for sheep card as it may be someone just used or tricked you?:))

4 butterfly! Rw is positive n happy scene so my guess is transformation into something beautiful!?:))

5 monkey in rw few people look like fighting but not for serious more like bar fight or making fool of yourself?:)) so that’s why I take it don’t make fool of youself! And wach yourbehavior!:))

similar to above numbering of the extra cards is based on numerology!:)) and there is a reason for each card number!:)) surprisingly adding numbers turn out to be not so simple as I expected it to be!

                                        Lenormand Cards & meaning

 Lenormand cards are combination of images numbers and French playing cards. Each lenormand card has its own image number and card from classical playing deck that together represent its basic meaning and provide a variety of opportunities for interpretation,

Playing cards signs symbolize the four elements / classes (learn this for easier interpretation of the cards!);   

Hearts (Hertz/Heart)- is the element of water, corresponding to the astrological signs: Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces. It symbolizes the army, emotion, love, passion, blood, sensibility, subjective experience of reality, in love, illusion, idealism, home, family, marriage, intuitive, artistic ability. Herc card always indicate that something good could happen, a good outcome of work, a love relationship, the possibility of a good bargain/deal, marriage etc. Next to bad cards, especially pik, can mean romantic problems but with them there is always possibility for happy twist. Can mean great happiness and emotional fulfillment. If in spread preveal hearts cards you should be careful when making decisions and more use reason rather than feelings. If prevailing reversed hearts cards you are too subjective, and therefore can come into conflict with the environment or be unhappy in love and social life.

Diamonds - Fits the element of earth in astrology and signs Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn. Symbolizes trade/merchant class, something concrete, material reality, money, job, career, convenience, home, health, ambition, responsibility. Can mean determination but slow pace as well, it all depends on surroundings cards. If diamonds prevails in the spread you should look at problems from a practical point or that can mean that a person is too occupied with everyday problems. Reversed can mean health problems.

Pikes (Spades/Leaf) - the element of air corresponds to Gemini, Libra and Aquarius. Symbolizes the ruling class and government, thoughts and ideas, the need for decision-making and change, insight, mood, disease, unpleasant twists, crisis, goodbyes, replies, open enemies, rivals. When in spread prevail spades, it indicate a lack of optimism, fear of failure and need to analyze the problem from another angle, search for new solutions. Reversed Pikes cards in large numbers in spread are hint of nerv tension, moodiness and presented open or hidden enemies, problems.

Clubs (/Clovers / Treff )- is element of fire, and corresponds to the fiery signs of the Zodiac: Aries, Leo and Sagittarius. Symbol of the agricultural classes, actions, activities, driving energy, vitality, speed, anger, determination, initiative, generosity, creativity, passion. Many clubs cards in spread, person is making a big plans in life and is rushing to realize them as soon as possible. If many cards are in reversed position, it is no time to approach the realization of what the cards represent and suggest or there will be a delay in the plans execution.

1. Rider: 9  H~ good card, success, victory, news, action, speed, agility, movement, new message/person/thing coming, transportation, an athletic man; or an actual rider or horse. if Cloud is between Rider and significator card/ lady gent baby etc/ it mean bad news

2. Clover: 6D ~ good card, luck, chance, opportunity, hope, taking a chance; or literally grass or herbs. With clouds sorrow, with character card short-term grief and quickly getting better

3. Ship: 10L~ trip,journey, travel, foreign country, exploration, commerce, long distance, overseas connection, difficulty, fears and worries, transactions, inheritance, prosperity, anything nautical or ship related. near significator card travel

4. House: King H~ home, family or close relations, real estate, property, safety, sanctuary, stability. and security, a father figure, close to person card mean luck, if in the middle of spread warns of caution!

5. Tree: 7 H~ health, growth, peace and contentment,   lineage, roots, family tree, ancestors, memories, karmic connection, the slow & steady passage of time, a really long time. if far from significator good health, strength, happiness and fulfillment of wishes

6. Clouds: King C~ Dark side of Clouds next to a card is negative; it brings doubt, fear, confusion, depression, worry, or stormy/cloudy/hazy weather to that card's meaning. male person businessman or a hustler . The bright side of the Clouds is positive; If by the bright side is a signifier happiness, it brings clarity, hope, good news & improves the card to its left.

7. Snake: Queen C~ fast and intelligent person, a wise woman, a rival, bad enemy, intrigue, temptation, depends on how close to the person card, can also mean a loss,  jealousy, deception, lies, betrayal, problems, change of course; or literally something curvy like a snake: such as wiring, hoses, or pipes.

Watch your steps, danger may be lurking where you can’t see, open your eyes and be careful of your actions and environment.

11. Whip: Jack C~ bad card, misunderstandings, quarrels, conflict, fight, discussion, repetitive pattern, rhythm, obsession, passion, addiction, something painful, punishment, abuse. Time to clean up something, problems at home, discord disease depends on the position of the person card,

12. Birds: 7  D~, gossip, conversation, communication, interview, messages, phone call; talent, good news, songs nervous energy; any pair: siblings, couple, an older couple; can mean gossip depending on the surrounding cards; or simply birds.

Stars: 6H~ the cosmos, astrology, fate, destiny, big dreams and expectations, hopes and wishes, guidance, clarity, intuition, imagination, metaphysics, networking, fame, reputation, talent, the evening; or the literal stars. sign of happiness in all areas of life, but close to the dark side of the Cloud can mean accident

18. Dog: 10 H~ companionship, faithfulness, loyalty, friendship, a loyal friend, trustworthy partner, reliable, dependable; cooperative playful, or a dog or other pet. trust, a close friend if close to significator and vice versa if far, if with Clouds beware of false friends and betrayal

Colors  meaning

Interpretation of cards is done in accordance with all the elements presented in the cards! Name (lat "Nomen est omen"-name is a sign!), color, scene and in lenormand case numbers and playing card insertions as well all together convey a message - meaning of the card!

Colors have a huge impact on our lives even though we’re often not aware of that, they influence our psyche, mood and evoke certain psychological and physical reactions, in accordance with that traditionally colors in a different nations and cultures have a particular meaning-symbolic message that certain color is transfering.

Best example of using color to transfer messages and meanings can be found in Heraldry and Cards. It can be noticed that *clean and clear* a.k.a basic - primary colors; red yellow and blue, have meaning and symbolism that is most important because all other colors can be derived by mixing those mentioned above, same is true for their meaning. Color symbolism depends primarily on the form in which specific color appears in nature as that accordingly formed its basic meaning. Thus, for example, colors that remind us of fire; red, yellow, orange give a feeling of warmth and comfort and encourage the activity and because of that are so called hot and active colors, and colors that remind us on water; blue and green act cool and soothing, and therefore are so-called cold and passive. In addition another important element is a purity-the presence of other colors, especially the color-tonality- presence of white or black color. White color is considered to contain all the colors of sunlight-spectrum and usually have a positive meaning, and black vice versa.                           

                

Accordingly, each color can have a positive or negative connotation, it depends on;
-the amount to which a particular color is used
-elements emphasized with that color,
-presence of other colors
-shades,

so for example usually it is considered that the meaning of color is favorable if a particular color is used moderately and with other colors-which contribute to balance, and that the lighter shades - presence of white color is more favorable than darker shades-presence of black color, and excessive use of certain color is negative. The most important is complete impression of all the elements and what we want to emphasize with specific color.

here is list of primary mining of colors in cards with their corresponding chakra and order in rainbow spectrum;

1. RED base, life, energy that emerge from below and rises up/we receive from earth, in nature appears as the color of fire and blood-life and death, warm, energy, active, primary. Taste sweet and spicy. Meaning mainly positive; happiness, joy, optimism, vitality, energy, activity, movement, emotions and strong will, determination, leadership, power, health, courage, protection, lust, longing, desire and love.

Negative meaning-if used excessively or darker shades; aggression, anger, rage, hatred, struggle, war, danger, change, sacrifice, (burgundy) represent the devil and the revolution, cruelty, immorality, death.

3 YELLOW solar plexus, material word that surround us, accomplishment success, nature; sun, light, warm, active, taste sweet or acidic, primary color, meaning mostly positive; optimism, joy, energy, wisdom, intellect, intelligence, intuition, ideas, idealism, virtue, faith, honor and loyalty, enlightenment, travel and movement, transience and spontaneity, spring, and new learning opportunities, awakening psychic abilities and clarity of feelings, self-esteem, healing, glory, charm, creativity, communication, interpersonal relationships, trust, prestige.

Negative;laziness and cynicism, jealousy, arrogance, dogmatism, analytical, critical, irritability, nervousness, fatigue, manipulation, dishonor and disgrace, deception, nausea, caution, unfortunately, psychic and mental illness, dark yellow or shade of green is the symbol for envy, jealousy, betrayal,infidelity and cowardice,                                   

GOLDEN yellow-gold and gold-sun, bright color like yellow but metal –inedible, cold, meaning usually positive; the royal color, knowledge, power, wisdom, wealth, respect, achievements, great ambition, money, luxury, positive attitude, long life and learning and traveling, passion, change careers and place of residence, often associated with religion and faith, a feeling of fullness and connectedness with the whole, harmony enlightenment and the power of the subconscious, transformation and awakening.

GREEN heart is color of nature and plants, most natural and most comfortable for eye, edible, a combination of blue and yellow, meaning usually positive; hope, growth, improvement, restoration, recovery and new beginnings, wealth, youth, immortality, emotions, sensitivity and compassion, self-esteem and confidence, relaxation and refreshment, reflection, purification, healing, vitality and inspiration, harmony, peace, security, tranquility, stability, durability, endurance, responsibility, money, success, honesty.

5. and 6 BLUE (light voice throat communication, dark /indigo forehead/mind all related to brain intelligence and thinking) water and sky, transparent, cold, one of the primary colors. 7. PURPLE crown, top, higher energy that we receive from above and cosmos, divine link, rare in nature, associate with unnatural and artificial, cold, combination of contrast; blue and red, same is the meaning;
Positive; the color of kings and nobility, clergy, spirituality, religion, power / rank / position, wealth, luxury, extravagance, sophistication, independence, creativity, art, wisdom, imagination, magic, mysticism, mystery, intuition, quest, patience, gratitude, healing, reflection and balance.

Negative; gloomy and sad feelings, sadness, grief, resentment, frustration, depression, penance, repentance, nausea, crucifixion, prohibition, conspiracy ambition, arrogance, shadow, exaggeration, extravagance, wrath, madness, death.

  

BROWN color of the country as well as mud, eternal, permanent and steadiest natural color, a warm and cozy, creating a sense of calmness and firmness of community and tradition. Meaning mostly positive; reality, materialism, this world Time and space, stability, reliability, honesty, friendship, antiques, country and village.

Negative; humility, transience, poverty, shabby, boring, gloomy and dull.

BLACK darkness, night, absence of light and colors, it absorbs all colors and is their synthesis, meaning similar to white but usually negative; fear of the unknown, uncertainty, danger, mystery, secrets, cargo, terror, chaos, nothingness, negativity, accidents, pessimism, emptiness, banishment, grief, selfishness, sadness, anxiety, regret, loneliness, emotional coldness and ignorance, dependence, existentialism and anarchy, rebellion, evil, disease, death and renewal, formalities.

Positive; outer space and the universe, vast distance, depth, start and end, independence, unknown and unexplored frontiers of the past, unconsciousness, authority, absolute acceptance of all people and situations, elegance, sophistication, success and prestige, power. In some cultures; fertility and wisdom, seriousness, loyalty.

WHITE in nature; moon, light, snow, winter, cold weather, distance, special colors (often not considered a color), perfectly balanced, representing all colors in one, the result of light waves and mixture of all three natural colors: yellow, red and blue, indicates everything and nothing at the same time. It is the lack of all colors and reflects all colors. Meaning opposite to black, usually positive; freshness, peace and reconciliation, clarity, simplicity, lightness, purity, innocence, honesty, kindness, gentleness, faith, virtue, eternity, perfection, divinity, spirituality, freedom, creativity, potential, new or successful beginning, birth, protection, security, help.

Negative opposite the green; the lack of something. cold, fragility, isolation, elite, sterility, infertility, grief, sorrow, misfortune, spiritual crises and the need for purification and healing, paleness, sickness, death.

GREY in nature; stone and metal, cold, between white and black neither of that, very neutral and unemotional color, same is the meaning. Positive; balance, compromise and flexibility, initiation, enlightenment, coping, skills, intuition, imagination, resurrection, stealth, invisibility, protection.

Negative; containment, caution, sluggishness, concerns, problems, sadness, melancholy, depression, carelessness, apathy, monotony, saturation and frustration, fatigue, inefficiency, lack of interest.

SILVER in nature metal, inedible, similar to gold but less intense, and similar to gray but bright; Positive; happiness, dreams, visions, unconsciously, hidden potentials, desires and ambitions beyond the material world, sudden premonitions, intuition, telepathy, understanding, forgiveness and release, purity, refinement, encouragement, generosity, divine wisdom, protection, astral energies, female power and communications, glamour, technology.

Negative; as with gold robbery, avarice, betrayal, greed, power and control.

And last but not less important! Don’t forget transparent even if we can’t see it seems transparent is entangled with essence of life? Basic element necessary for life are transparent water and air, and on the other hand our emotions and thoughts can’t be seen but are evident so it can be said they are transparent as well? And there is one more thing what if beside water and air there is some invisible energy that give us life and sustain all life on this earth? That would make trinity often spoken in different religions? Transparent each less condense and tangible then other but necessary for life?
